What people in each country are watching in the news on YouTube, which public-affairs themes those videos are about, and whether the country's news coverage is unusually negative today.
Number of each country's most-watched news videos that touch each theme. A video can have up to three themes.
What this shows. For each country, the most popular videos in YouTube's News & Politics category (top 20), via the official YouTube Data API. On-theme is the percentage of the country's top news videos that are actually about one of the themes, as opposed to entertainment or gossip that is filed under News. Themes are assigned automatically from each video's title and channel by an AI model, and can be wrong, so treat the grid as a guide.
Tone comes from the GDELT news database: the average tone of the country's media coverage for the last full day. Unusually negative means it is well below that country's own norm over the previous 60 days (a robust z-score of -1.5 or lower). It is a media measure, not a poll of public mood.
Most-watched is not the same as most-trusted, and some countries limit or distort what appears on YouTube. Video titles are shown in their original language. YouTube data is kept for 30 days only. Not investment advice.
